About

Justin Winters, the creator of HBT Woodworks, is a wood artist from Scottsville, NY.
Each work of art is meticulously created using timber that has been responsibly sourced, meaning only trees that have already been felled are used. Taking the time to analyze the grain structure in the wood and then reevaluating each piece during the creation process ensures that there is always a drive to continuously improve upon his craft.
After years of working with wood, Justin has come to expect and embrace "defects" and cracks that are inherent to using wood as a medium, which guide his creative direction and processes. A substantial portion of the shapes, texturing, and carving in each work are inspired by the natural "flaws" of the wood. There is a beauty and elegance when the end result of a piece is from the combined efforts of the creator and the created.
HBT stands for Handcrafted by Tuki. The logo for HBT was designed by Justin and is intended to represent two of his biggest passions: his love for woodturning and marine life. The logo simultaneously looks like a jellyfish and a wooden bowl being turned on a lathe.
The goal of HBT Fine Art is to create long lasting art pieces that elicit awe, comfort, and a sense of connection with the natural world while evoking wonder as to how some of his creations are formed.
